Barbara Ann Russek, PsyD

I am a licensed psychologist who treats families, couples, and individual children, adolescents, and adults. I specialize in working with couples making the transition to parenthood and with families who have children under the age of 7. Issues that arise frequently include separation anxiety, chronic illness, sleeping or eating disturbances, and learning or behavioral difficulties in school. My treatment approach emphasizes collaborating with parents or other caregivers, and may include consultations with school personnel and classroom observations. In addition, I have found it especially rewarding to help parents with troubled adult children focus on maintaining a positive, age-appropriate connection to their child while coping with their own anxiety. Whether treating adults or children, I focus on enhancing strengths and finding ways to minimize the impact of stressors on relationships, development, and goals. Thus, although experienced in working with a wide range of diagnoses and situations, including depression; anxiety; serious mental illness; eating disorders; chronic illness; aging; sexual abuse; domestic violence; and religious, racial, or ethnic differences, my overall goal, regardless of diagnosis, is to help patients live their lives in the most satisfying way possible.

Training:
Barnard College of Columbia University (BA); Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology of Yeshiva University (PsyD); Long Island Jewish Medical Center-Hillside Hospital (Psychology Extern, Adult Outpatient Psychiatry); New York Hospital- Cornell Medical Center, Westchester Division (Psychology Extern, Child Outpatient and Adolescent Inpatient Psychiatry); Blythedale Children’s Hospital (Psychology Intern); Ackerman Institute for the Family (Externship in Family Therapy).
